Why does underwater archaeology excite you and make you want to learn more?
A Writing Competition for 14 – 18 year olds
Have you ever wanted to know more about maritime archaeology? Do you love the sea and stories about shipwrecks and adventure? Are you thinking about studying archaeology at University? We know that many 14-18 year olds have not had the opportunity of work experience due to the Covid-19 pandemic and we want to do something to help address this. Sadly, its not possible to get young people into the office or out on fieldwork with us at the moment but we would like to offer another opportunity.
With the support of retired maritime archaeologist Ian Oxley, we are offering three people the chance to undertake the combined Introduction to Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Archaeology online training courses with the Nautical Archaeology Society for free. The NAS course is suitable for anyone with an interest in archaeology or heritage, diving with a purpose or learning more from their beach walks. No prior learning or qualifications are required. There is no age limit on the course. The course is suitable for both divers and non-divers as it provides an excellent grounding in archaeology that is both underwater and on the foreshore. It could be just the course to spark an interest, or to develop an existing one, that could turn into a career. Your prize will include one years free membership of the Nautical Archaeology Society and a log book for you to keep track of your archaeological training.
