Protected Wreck Site Support Grant – £500 (or £600 to be spent on dive equipment in Go-Dive Ltd)
MSDS Marine are pleased to be able to offer two annual grant awards for maritime archaeology in the UK.
The MSDS Marine Protected Wreck Award was first launched in 2018 to help support Licensees and their teams. There has now been over 50 years of Licensees and their teams volunteering their time and enthusiasm to help ensure the wreck sites are enjoyed, researched and protected. Licensees and their teams have played a huge role in the careers of all MSDS Marine staff. They have inspired us, taught us and helped us develop our skills and to recognise this we would like to give something back.
We recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers to marine archaeology in the UK and would like to help support their work financially as well as with the practical advice and guidance and support we already give. Awards are designed to assist with specific costs incurred by volunteers working on sites protected under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 and other heritage legislation. Do you need new equipment, is there training you would benefit from? We are happy to consider anything that would help you! All team members are eligible to apply for the award providing they have the support of the Principal Licensee for the site. On completion of their work, the successful candidates must submit a 500 word blog, and at least three images, for publication on the MSDS Marine website detailing what the award has been used for. Submissions will be judged by MSDS Marine in consultation with the Heritage Agencies.
In 2023 the closing date for applications is Sunday 5th November.
NEW FOR 2023
In addition for 2023 we would like to help celebrate fifty years of protected wreck sites we would like to work with groups to create new leaflets for protected wreck sites. If you think the site you work on, or a group of sites regionally, will benefit from a new leaflet we would love to hear from you! The design work for the leaflet will be done by Alison at MSDS Marine in the Historic England style (you can see examples of other leaflets we have helped create here) and we will work with teams and Historic England to select the best images and agree text before getting the leaflets printed and sending them out to teams to use and distribute locally.
If you think your site or region would benefit from a leaflet please email info@MSDSMarine.co.uk explaining why a leaflet would help by Sunday 5th November.
