MSDS Marine were delighted to be appointed to the Historic England Marine Protection Framework earlier this year.
As part of the response to the Marine Review, Historic England determined to replace the historic, single contractor approach with a Framework Agreement. This will allow Historic England to provide a more flexible response working with a wider range of specialist contractors and thereby helping to support and develop capacity in the sector.
The projects covered by this Framework Agreement will address those sites and assets most at risk through neglect, decay or other threats within UK territorial waters adjacent to England.
The MSDS Marine are supported in their submission to the framework with partnership agreements with Bournemouth University, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Maritime Archaeology Society (CISMAS), Dark Water Exploration, Malvern Archaeological Diving Unit (MADU), the Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust (MAST), Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA), the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS), Pascoe Archaeology and the Protected Wreck Association (PWAssoc). The collaborative nature of our proposal ensures that capacity is built in the wider maritime archaeological sector to ensure an increased, robust work force is developed and maintained.
Working with one of our partners, Pascoe Archaeology, we have recently undertaken desk-based and geophysical survey of a new site on the Goodwin Sands. We are currently reporting on this and will be making recommendations to Historic England on if diving assessment is required later this month.
