MSDS Marine Scotland: New Office Opens on Isle of Skye

Home 5 News 5 MSDS Marine Scotland: New Office Opens on Isle of Skye

We are delighted to announce the opening of the second MSDS Marine office, with our first permanent base in Scotland.

Our new office provides maritime archaeology services throughout Scotland. The Scottish office is located on the beautiful Isle of Skye and is managed by Sally Evans. Sally is one of the three Directors of MSDS Marine. She brings a wealth of knowledge and a love of Scotland and its archaeology to the Scottish office.

The MSDS Marine Scottish office is a beautiful building located on the Isle of Skye. It forms a space for all our marine archaeology activities in Scotland.

Sally has extensive experience managing and undertaking research and assessments associated with Scottish marine heritage assets including work supporting applications for Scottish offshore wind farms, studies into the shipwreck heritage of the Clyde and assessments of other Scottish wrecks in UK waters. These projects involved engagement with recreational divers and led to assessments of significance for over 50 vessels. In addition to marine experience, Sally has also been involved in a range of terrestrial work in Scotland including housing, windfarm and cable developments in Shetland and Fair Isle which involved desk-based work, walkover surveys, evaluation trenching and watching briefs. These projects required a working knowledge of Scottish heritage, legislation and assessment frameworks.

Sally has recently completed her PhD focusing on the use of marine resources, in particular cetaceans, on the Western Isles in the past using zooarchaeological and biomolecular analysis. During the course of her studies Sally has conducted work on the Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland, the Faroe Islands, Norway and Iceland, providing a strong basis for understanding Scottish archaeology in the context of the wider North Atlantic.

We are able to offer all MSDS Marine services from the new office including underwater and intertidal survey. You can find more about all the services we offer in house here.
